~SECRETS IN LACE AT LBF 2008~
Over the past 5 years Secrets In Lace has sponsored many Burlesque events and worked with many performers. Dita Von Teese, a long time Secrets In Lace customer, worked with SIL to produce her exclusive line of 100% Nylon Stockings and today wears Secrets In Lace Stockings in her acts and daily routine.
With our past experience as a gauge, it is safe to say the London Burlesque Festival was an amazing event in every sense of the word. The crowds were awesome and the performers that Secrets In Lace sponsored were outstanding. I must say the stockings added a subtle attention to detail that made their acts “pop” on stage. Of particular note were the Scarletine Delight who blew the crowd away on opening night at Madame Jojos. On night 2, Dangerous Dolly was so hot in her stockings she almost set the stage on fire without the use of her normal pyrotechnics! Marianne Cheesecake as Charlie Chaplin redefined that golden age at the International Gala along with Venus Noir whose legs looked even longer in her SIL Stockings (if that is even possible?)
Last & certainly not least, Cecilia Bravo was stunning, flanked with classic ostrich fans by Dolly Blowup and Chrys Columbine at the VIP Closing Party.
Clearly, Chaz Royal’s London Burlesque Festival will continue to be the premier Burlesque event in London.

The 2008 London Burlesque Festival kicked off in fine form Wednesday April 2nd at Soho’s
sexiest & seediest Adult Cabaret, Madame Jojo’s. What was dubbed as the ‘Glitterati Gala’,
came with a whimsical evening of sounds & sights Circa 1930’s glam while infusing elements
of sideshow, 50’s sleaze & 60’s go-go ala bump & grind belly dance. It was a night that brought
London’s elite together in an intimate & exclusive setting, while maximizing on the International
Press in attendance. What could top such a dazzling event… Let’s move on to Day 2!
The top goal for LBF ’08 was to showcase what the London Burlesque Community also
Had to offer the general public throughout the year. It was a time for others to come
Forward & get involved in many ways. On April 3rd, LBF showcased 3 distinct & separate
Burlesque Revues, what was labeled as the ‘UK Showcase Series’.
Here was a unique way to have the option to travel or see a show in your neighborhood. Despite
the smaller style venues, the show talent this night was above the bar, & proves that the
homegrown talent in England, is unmatched anywhere! & Who ever said sightlines were
guaranteed? We promises to do 1 big ‘UK Showcase’ in 2009, & stay away from the smaller
venues!
Friday April 4th the LBF moved over to the historic & beautiful Bush Hall for the next 2 nights.
Words cannot describe how friendly & helpful all of their staff is to the LBF production. It was
the day of the New Comers Contest & when the crew arrived at 2pm, they were already coming
from around the Nation. Over 30 Lovely Ladies & an additional squad of ‘Blokes’ for an
‘All-Male’ Chorus Line, were piling in, signing in, & gearing up for what was an absolute
‘Battle Royale’! Sizzling & sultry strip tease, gut busting variety acts, mind bending magic &
audience hypnosis is just a smidge of what was displayed on this stage in a marathon of thrills,
spills & chills! When the glitter, glam, feathers & dust finally settled, those who stood above the
rest were as follows:
Best London Performer 2008: Siren Stiletto
Best UK Performer 2008: Annette Betty
Best UK Duet or Troupe 2008: *Tie Place* Femme Ferale & Frivolitease
*Notable mentions go out to all dancers that participated, you were a delight to watch & without
your support, could not have such an event! We thank you a million times over!
CALLING ALL JETSETTERS! From the eight corners of the earth! The 2nd Annual
International London Burlesque Festival brings you…. 50 Burlesque Dames!… Yes 50! Of the
Wildest & Wonkiest, Glamed up Dollies, Cinched up Cuties, Pin up Princesses & Downright
Divas, from around the world! For 1 Night Only! The Best & Most Diverse Burlesque Revue In
The Worrrld, THE JETSETTERS BALL!
Having Sold Out 5 Days in advance, this show was hands down the most exclusive event of
LBF ’08. There is no way to go into details, other then it was the best event of my 15 year career
in the entertainment industry. The quality of Burlesque, Cabaret, Vaudeville, Circus & Sideshow
was something I’ve only dreamed & hoped for since I started working in Burlesque over 6 years.
Last & probably least (Pun Intended) The VIP Closing Party & Topless Revue! In the Church of
Chazziah Sundays are seen as a day of rest to the nipple, & pasties (Tassles) are optional! In an
homage & attempted res-erection of the late great Paul Raymond,
Founder of the Raymond Revue Bar (Now Soho Revue Bar), this event proved that less is
definitely more! The tasteful & often comedic Revue focused on the art of the tease rather then
what most adult strip houses present these days, & kept true to the traditional aesthetic of the
original revue from the 1950’s. I wish I had the chance to meet Mr. Raymond in his hey day, &
would like to hope a true legacy has been passed on in another realm from one King to another.
We thank Paul Raymond for everything he has done for Burlesque!
See you all next year at LBF 2009!
Chaz Royal
Due to the overwhelming response in applicants & attendees for this year’s London Burlesque Festival, the structure for 2009 will be changing in numerous ways.
LBF ’08 had a record breaking 387 talented applicants from around the world apply, which made reviewing & eliminations very difficult. There were so many great performers that we had to deny, & ultimately those who feel let down by the Festival organizers. The process in which acts will be accepted for 2009 will be made by an online voting pole, with the general public deciding on who they want to see at the Festival. This will help us separate performers who are as keen to support LBF as they are to receive the exposure by being involved. It also helps us determine if patrons want to see repeat performers or more interested in seeing new talent showcased at LBF ’09. The final stats will be valuable information in scheduling next year’s line up. We will make the process as easy & straight forward as possible. Applications will be made available by September 1st.
This year’s LBF saw a record breaking attendance with over 2500 patrons in the span of five fabulous nights. An estimated 1000 people were denied entry to the events this year, which gives us the motivation to select larger venues for 2009. We are currently scouting venues that have higher capacity levels, secured seating, better sightlines, numerous bar stations & more. We love the intimacy of the smaller venues we have chosen the past 2 years but the reality is that too many people want to see the show. Apologies to anyone that had difficulty in viewing the performances this year. LBF is still a young festival that is continuing to grow & through that will be able to work out any small ‘kinks’ on an annual basis. We thank you for your continued support. LBF will be releasing news throughout the year. Stay posted on full details for LBF 2009!
